No stranger to controversy and drama, Logan Paul has had quite the number of viral videos over the years. One of his first addressed potential colorblindness, but is he actually colorblind?

Logan Paul has repeatedly stated that he suffers from red-green colorblindness. Despite multiple criticisms of his claim, Logan maintains that the issue is a real problem that he faces.

Logan’s claims of color blindness that he has continued to uphold over the years have been the subject of much criticism and ridicule. This critique had more to do with the sensationalist nature of the video, rather than the condition itself.

A Viral Hit

The prompting of the question about Logan’s color blindness originated from the release of a Youtube video titled “THESE GLASSES CURED MY COLORBLINDNESS!” Accompanied by an equally dramatic thumbnail, the video went on to document Logan, his apparent color blindness, and his new purchase that supposedly “cures” the problem.

Throughout the video, with some brief but seemingly confused comments about the color blindness condition that he has, Logan ventures out to see a sunset in full color for the first time.

After a somewhat histrionic affair watching the sun go down, Logan was left with a video that would go viral. He had already been rising through the ranks at Youtube before the release of the video, but it proved to be a particularly massive success for him.

Which Type of Colorblindness?

In Logan’s color blindness video, there are several particularly strange claims. Aside from some slightly odd insinuations about what colors he can and can not see, there’s the question of what type of colorblindness he actually has.

Logan seems to be under the impression in his first video that he’s suffering from deuteranomaly type color blindness. The validity of this, or any indication that he’s well versed about the subject, is immediately called into question by the claim that the glasses he purchased will allow him to see color for the “first time”.

There’s some sort of implication here that he can only see in black and white, a very literal and equally incorrect assumption about the way that colorblindness functions. Unless he has achromatopsia, of course, which he never mentions.

In the same video, in an interaction with his friend, he notes that he can only see pet parrot and channel mascot Maverick in a single color, yellow, not realizing that there are greens or any variance in color whatsoever. Another possible slip-up, seeing as how people with color blindness can still see the difference in shades.

For the Views

A lot of time has gone by since the color blindness video fist went viral. Not only has Youtube as a platform changed but Logan and the kind of content that he creates have changed as well.

There were some dark spots during that development and Logan has gone through periods of being vilified for his misdeeds in his videos. The internet as a whole hasn’t been quick to forgive the Youtuber, and perhaps rightly so, but he has seemed apologetic about past mistakes.

Although it’s hard to gauge with a personality like Logan whether or not change is legitimate, his apology does seem to be sincere. He tries to be more honest about his content, especially with regards to previous statements that may have been embellished.

Looking back on the video with his team during an episode of his podcast, Impaulsive, Logan reflected on the dramatic nature of the video. He admitted himself that almost everything that took place was overacted or exaggerated.

He speaks at length with his team and video editor about feeling like he had to oversell the idea of the video. This matches up with the comments that he has made in the past about trying to “tell a story” with his content.

Round Two

Logan followed the first video up, years later, with another video attempting to cure his color blindness with glasses. This sequel seemed a lot more tongue-in-cheek, a little bit of a poke at his previous video.

In the video, he tests his colorblindness again, testing positive for a different type of red-green color blindness.

This muddies the water so badly when his previous statements about the condition are taken into account, making it borderline impossible to tell whether he is legitimately colorblind or simply trying to tell yet another story in the seemingly never-ending chase for views.
